Ginny and her friends love Halloween and movies!
So they begged Dad to take them to see Hayley Mills
playing twins in " The Parent Trap."
Dad gave in and piled them all into the Plymouth wagon
and it was off to the Natick Drive-In Theater!
The double feature included Patty Mc Cormack in the chiller thriller,
"The Bad Seed!"
Now the girls all had their costumes on
so...
Dad let them trick or treat in the theater lot
during coming attractions!
They ate Jujy fruits and popcorn for dinner!
But later...before bed... Ginny arranged a
a Halloween party of treats and ghost stories!
Ginny had carefully planned her own "Let's get together party"
after the movies
and there would be a a sleepover, too!
Sweets would be served in Mom's vintage sherbert glasses
along with
Halloween candy and treats!
Muffie and the Virga sisters would surely attend!
Ginny made sure the table setting would dazzle Mom's
Strombecker dining set. She wanted the girls to say,
"Ohhhhh.....Ahhhhhh!"
(Yes, Ginny made the matching placemats!)
Muffie came dressed as a stewardess from the class of '52
and carried animal crackers from trick or treating.
Hard candies were placed on the bureau for the girls to share!
Becky the Virga baseball twin brought the pizza and hot dogs!
She hung her Popeye mask on the wardrobe knob.
She wanted it handy for later...
when they all would
light candles and
tell ghost stories!
(No one would see her looking scared!)
Gracie the Gorilla could not decide between costumes
and carried an extra duck mask just in case!
Bonnie, the other twin peeking out from under her glasses,
was clearly headed for rock 'n roll stardom.
She wished she was Hayley Mills in the movie!
The sisters knew only too well how mischievous twins can be!
Tonight was a night for unearthing treasures
The Virga twins brought sewing cards, Elvis
records and magic golden charms .( Look below on the right!)
Becky was happy to share her collection of comic character candy boxes
(above left)
(You see, when the candy is gone, the boxes become exciting.
The girls can send for plastic toy give aways! )
Quickie, the hamster in the center terrarium
has no idea what he is in for tonight!
(The girls will bottle feed him by candle light)
You were invited to the party. Did you bring your sleeping bag?!
( Please scroll across and pick a spot for your bag!)
ThThis candle will help you find your way later on!
You may place your belongings in either hope chest!
Take a seat at the table beside Ginny!
She smells like lilacs!
Can you guess who sampled the My Merry talc's?
The green MIB 6 piece furniture you see here was made by Cass Toys
before the Vogue pink Ginny line was even issued.
(Earlier on this site I displayed another Cass set in pink with decals.
Luckily I found another pink Cass set.
The decals on the set are bunnies!
Naturally, I made another twin bedroom scene that I hope to post.
I have never seen the pink set with a two drawer dresser.
If one exists, I would love to have it!
The pink Cass set was also made before the Ginny line in 1955.)
In '55 The Cass Toy Company
made Ginny's pink heart chairs, wardrobe, bed,
and trousseau tree for the Vogue Ginny line.
The Strombecker Company made many Ginny pieces, also.
The green Cass sets were sometimes
issued with a two drawer chest
that is hard to find.
Other sets were issued without it.
The mint set above pictures the elusive chest
as it was included when I bought this set.
This excellent #408 Cass set does not feature
the two drawer dresser . (View 1)
(I purchased the dresser separately after a lot of hunting!
I also bought an extra night stand below.)
Exc 7 pieces of Cass furniture (View 2)
The above two pics are of this same set,
first the box graphic, then the set as it comes packed.
The flaws are these: The two drawer chest I found and added
has a small ding on the top.
Also there is staining on the inside
bottom of the wardrobe that luckily
does not reach the outside of the closet.
Looks like something spilled.
I put down a matching green removable cardboard piece
on the floor of the wardrobe.
Looks great! Voila`, twin furniture sets!
Packed set (View 3)
The Cass sets have a central metal hanging rack for clothing,
while Strombecker wardrobes feature a wooden bar
that runs the length of the closet.
I was always reluctant to buy this Cass set
as I wasn't sure what the colors really were and if
they would go with my doll clothing.
When I did see parts of a set online ,
they were usually quite played with.
I wanted two great sets.
As it turns out, I love the colors!
The little girl's face with the headband is so 50's!
It looks like they used a stamp of some kind.
The girl's hair looks like it has highlights.
The green in the sets is a mint green with navy flowers
and on the wardrobe and bed pieces,
red paint was included in the center of the flowers.
The best part is that the Cass furniture has that same
light oak finish you see on Strombecker pieces,
so you can interchange set pieces and it looks great!
I like the quality of both Strombecker and Cass,
but I am partial to the pieces with color or decals.
If you don't know this song, you better see the movie!
Wait!
AreAre you ready for what comes next? The lights are going out fast!
The haunting has just begun!
